Classroom Management
Clip Chart
We will be using a clipchart to manage each child's behavior in the classroom. The chart has 7 levels and students can move up and down the chart for good or wrong choices. I feel the clip chart gives students a goal to reach amazing choices on a daily basis in order to maintain a positive environment.
Here is the breakdown of each level
Amazing choices- Students that reach this level go above and beyond all day long and are leaders. Their behavior and classroom participation is excellent and consistent. Students that reach this level are able to decorate their pins with markers, and jewels!
Great Choices- Students that reach this level make consistent great choices through hard work, and participation throughout the day.
Good Choices- Student that reach this level at the end of the day are working hard.
Ready to Learn- Everyone starts at this level.
Think About it- Students at this level have received at least one warning about their behavior and are asked to think about how they will make better choices.
Responsibility Task- Students at this level have received at least two or more warnings and may be assigned a task chosen by the teacher to take responsibility for their behavior. Examples include signing the behavior log, and completing a think sheet.
Teacher Choice- Students at this level have received three or more warnings and the consequences are chosen by the teacher. Consequences at this stage may include parent contact or visiting the office.
Class Dojo
Class dojo is used schoolwide at Humphries. The website can be be found here. We use class dojo to award positive/negative points based on behavior. Examples of positive behaviors include being respectful. participation, and completing homework. Examples of negative behaviors include talking out of turn, out of chair, and rude/disrespectful behavior. Once students earn 50 points in a two period they are able to go to Activity Day. Activity Day is from 1:00-2:00 on a biweekly basis and consists of activities sponsored by different teachers in the building. Students are able to choose their own activities based on what is available. Examples of activities are kickball, arts and crafts, technology, double dutch, Wii and many more. If a student does not earn 50 points they will spend that hour in skill builders discussing ways to make better choices.
